Brief explanation of the Bio Bus Project

The Bio Bus project involved the formation of a partnership between 3 organisations – Stagecoach, Argent Energy and East Ayrshire Council.

Stagecoach West Scotland are a provider of local bus services and interurban coach services throughout the South West of Scotland. Operating 500 buses from 8 locations, Stagecoach West Scotland carried over 36 million passengers last year and covered over 26 million miles.

Argent Energy provide the biofuel for the Bio Buses. The biofuel is produced from tallow and waste products from within the food industry, both of which are sustainable feedstock sources that do not involve the destruction of natural habitats or compete with the human food chain.

East Ayrshire Council are responsible for the recycling element of the project. It is to their recycling depot that local people are asked to take their used cooking oil and East Ayrshire Council, in turn, direct the waste to Argent Energy.
